We will be offering 3 optional excursions as follows. Prices to be advised:

July 2nd - Spoleto & the world of truffles in the Valnerina Valley.

Departure at 9:00 am. Spoleto is visually stunning, presided over by a formidable medieval fortress and backed by the broad shouldered Apennines. The historic centre has maintained its medieval appearance, although traces of its Roman heritage are still visible, i.e. the grand arches of the Bridge of Towers and an amphitheatre; the Lombards made it the capital of their duchy in 570, building it high and mighty and leaving it with a parting gift of a Romanesque cathedral in the early 13th century. The visit includes Spoleto's pretty pale-stone cathedral, originally built in the 11th century using huge blocks of salvaged stones from Roman buildings for its slender bell tower. Enter the world of truffles at the Truffle Museum, located in the heart of Scheggino, a small town of 488 inhabitants in the Valnerina valley. Enjoy a genuine lunch with truffle specialties. It’s a day where you’ll be wrapped up in tradition, atmosphere, sights, sounds and flavours of Umbria.

July 5th– Citta di Castello & Montone.

Departure at 9:30 am. Guided tour of Città di Castello, enclosed in a ring of Renaissance walls and a small historic centre that is pleasant to explore. Much of the artistic heritage in the town dates from the rule of the Vitelli in the 15th century, with the palaces and churches having a Tuscan influence, a result of the close bonds between the Vitelli family and the Medici of Florence. Discover Montone, a charming hilltop village surrounded by the green hills of the Upper Tiber Valley. Though rooted in the 9th century, Montone took on its fortified, stone appearance in the medieval period. It is difficult not to be enchanted by the magic of the place walking through its narrow and tortuous streets surrounded by impervious walls, where you can still breathe that typical medieval atmosphere. Lunch in a local restaurant, a genuine food experience, perfect for the body and mind.

July 7th– Carapace winery & Bevagna.

TDeparture at 9:45 am. Visit to the Umbrian wine estate “Tenuta Castelbuono”, which is devoted to the production of a rich and fascinating wine, Montefalco Sagrantino. Guided tour of the winery, with tasting of the current vintages of 4 representative wines along with some typical products such as cold cuts, cheeses, bruschetta with extra virgin olive oil, sweet Roccetti del Carapace and organic honey. Under Arnaldo Pomodoro’s Carapace, nature, art and architecture interact with each other. Then on to Bevagna, for a stroll to enjoy this small, wonderfully preserved medieval gem. Top off the tour with a light lunch in a local restaurant. An overall gourmet experience!

We can also arrange for airfare from Canada and transfers from Rome Airport to your hotel in Perugia. This would be an additional cost.

The program is as follows: Please note there are several free concerts on June 30th at 7:00PM, July 3rd at 3:00PM, July 4th at 3:00PM, July 5th at 11:00AM & 3:00PM.
